ELECTRONIC PHOTONIC DESIGN AUTOMATION
The AIM Photonics Process Design Kit (PDK) provides a suite of tools and packages to enable designers to create their prototypes in the AIM process technologies. The PDK is supported by multiple design tools.
Cadence – The AIM Photonics PDK is supported by Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, and Physical Verification System. This allows for schematic capture, circuit simulation, photonic layout with building block libraries, and design rule checking. Interoperability is available with Lumerical for photonics simulations.
Synopsys – The AIM Photonics PDK is supported by Synopsys tools for design and verification of Photonic ICs: OptoDesigner, OptSim and IC Validator. This enables schematic capture, circuit and system simulation, photonic layout implementation with the PDK provided building block library, waveguide auto-routing and design rule checking. In addition, Synopsys tools enable custom design using Photonic Device Compiler. Photonic Device Compiler is leveraging the RSoft Photonic Device Tools and Custom PDK Utility automation to generate symbols, layouts and simulation models in case a PDK provided building block is not providing the functionality required by the designer.
Ansys/Lumerical – All elements in the various component libraries are available for using in Interconnect for circuit simulations. This includes interoperability with many of the layout tools. Designers can also use FDTD, Mode, EME, Device, etc. for custom component simulation.
Luceda IPKISS – Luceda has built a version of the AIM Photonics PDK to operate within their IPKISS software. This allows for Python based layout generation with links to Ansys Lumerical simulation tools and Siemens EDA’s L-Edit.
KLayout/SiEPIC Tools – Building off of the SiEPIC Tools KLayout add-ons, the AIM Photonics PDK supports photonic layout with building block libraries, parameterized cells, waveguide snapping/routing, netlist extraction, design rule checking, and interoperability with Ansys Lumerical.
Siemens EDA – The AIM Photonics PDK is supported in Siemens tools for photonics layout including Tanner S-Edit and L-Edit.
