Call for Proposals - AIM Photonics Government Directed Project: BIO INSPECT

Dear Friends,

AIM Photonics would like to invite those who have interest to submit proposals to be included in the AIM Photonics Government Directed Project: BIOlogical, Integrated, Novel, Silicon Photonics for Efficient Characterization and Testing (BIO INSPECT). Available federal funding: Up to two awards are anticipated under this program (AIM Photonics GDP6) at approximately $1,150,000.00 per award. Additional federal funding may become available in future years; however, it is expected that any future work will build on the results of this effort.

GDPs offer a compelling way for the U.S. Government to take advantage of the capabilities developed by the American Institute for Manufacturing Integrated Photonics (AIM Photonics) Manufacturing Innovation Institute (MII) and leverage the utility of the AIM Photonics Cooperative Agreement. GDPs enable the government to provide additional funding to accomplish beyond what is possible using the Government’s base investment alone. Funding opportunities such as these provide value back to the overall ecosystem as well as AIM Photonics Members to help improve and enhance the overall capabilities of AIM Photonics. As such, within the broad field of biology there have been many recent advancements that have sought to take advantage of modern scientific discoveries.

In this call, BIO INSPECT seeks proposals focused on creating a biological sensing solution which leverages integrated photonic circuits. This GDP will result in AIM Photonics’ members working to develop a viable sensor prototype, highlighting its capability and functionality by demonstrating the final product, system, or prototype to the BioFabUSA MII. GDP6 will challenge proposers not only to develop a sensor solution able to identify the concentration of metabolites or proteins with clinical precision, but also to devise a system which can be used to perform in-situ, real-time, measurements.

All submissions must be received electronically on or before June 12, 2024 (no later than 11:59 PM (EST)).

As you prepare to submit your proposals to this GDP, please note the following.

  • BIO INSPECT is an 18-month single-phase, single technical area, GDP under AIM Photonics with a tentative start date in the September 2024 time frame.

  • Proposals for projects outside of the topic area will not be considered for additional funding at this time.

  • A notice of intent is not required for this project call.

  • This call is open to anyone with a compelling proposal.

  • The responder who is chosen must either be a full, active AIM Photonics Member or enter the AIM Photonics membership contracting phase prior to an award being disbursed or work started.

  • Utilize the below links for information on proposer eligibility, submission guidelines, instructions, FAQs, and other requirements, among others. If you are unable to access the below documents, reach out to Maria Halepis (MHalepis@aimphotonics.com).

  • The AIM Photonics point of contact for this GDP is Maria Halepis (MHalepis@aimphotonics.com).

Best to everyone in this endeavor and thank you for your continued interest and support of the Institute.

Sincerely,

Wade Cook
Executive Director, AIM Photonics
